About Amy

Amy and her husband Mark have lived in Manhattan Beach for 24 years. Their sons, Ari and Jack attended Manhattan Beach public schools. Since serving as a parent volunteer and legislative representative at Robinson Elementary in 2002, Amy has been committed to working for a better Manhattan Beach.
 
Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board 2003-2011
  • Helped pass Measure BB, a $67 million bond which completely transformed Mira Costa with a new Math and Science building; a new 300-seat multi-purpose room, a new band/orchestra facility, 44 completely renovated classrooms, a new satellite cafeteria, and a new central outdoor gathering place.
  • Helped recruit and hire two successful Superintendents
 
Manhattan Beach City Council 2011-2019
  • Served two terms as Mayor
  • Supported and facilitated several important capital projects including the rehabilitation of the Roundhouse Aquarium and the opening of the new Manhattan Beach Library as well as the Skate Spot at Marine Avenue Park. Voted in support of the new Fire Station 2 at 1400 Sepulveda Blvd.
  • Championed efforts on environmental policies. Eliminated the sale of polystyrene and single use utensils, straws, and bags; Created Smoke Free MB, banning smoking in all public places; implemented a city-wide food waste recycling program
  • Established 50% renewal energy rates for residents and was founding board member, Clean Power Alliance of Southern California
  • Re-negotiated Polliwog Park Lease Agreement with the School District
  • Voted to ban retail cannabis
  • Voted to ban overnight camping
  • Voted for budgets that fully supported Police Chief staffing requests
  • Voted for Automatic License Plate Readers
  • Appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission on Children and Families, and the Los Angeles County Women’s Commission
Community Service
  • Board president of South Bay Families Connected, an organization dedicated to improving the social and emotional wellness of South Bay youth with services to 90 local schools
  • Board member, Beach Cities Friends of Habitat for Humanity
 
Recognition
  • Assembly District 66 Woman of the Year in 2018 by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi
  • Honored as an outstanding leader by National Women’s Political Caucus of Los Angeles in 2014
  • Featured speaker in the film “Not In Our Town, Manhattan Beach,” about a suspected hate crime in Manhattan Beach
